Pretty Little Liars is an American teen drama mystery–thriller television series loosely based on the popular series of novels written by Sara Shepard. The show premiered on ABC Family June 2010 and was created by Executive Producers Leslie Morgenstein (The Vampire Diaries, The Originals), I. Marlene King (Ravenswood), Oliver Goldstick (Ravenswood, Lipstick Jungle), Maya Goldsmith (Lipstick Jungle), Joseph Dougherty (Saving Grace), and Bob Levy (Gossip Girl). Pretty Little Liars is set in the fictional town of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, and follows the lives of four girls: Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale), Hanna Marin (Ashley Benson), Emily Fields (Shay Mitchell), and Spencer Hastings (Troian Bellisario). Their clique falls apart after the disappearance of their leader, Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), and mysterious appearance of an unknown character called ‘A’. The series stars Troian Bellisario (Immediately After Life) as Spencer Hastings, Ashley Benson (Spring Breakers) as Hanna Marin, Lucy Hale (Scream 4) as Aria Montgomery, Shay Mitchell (Aaron Stone) as Emily Fields, Sasha Pieterse (Good Luck Chuck) as Alison DiLaurentis, Ian Harding (Adventureland) as Ezra Fitz, Laura Leighton (Melrose Place) as Ashley Marin, Holly Marie Combs (Charmed) as Ella Montgomery, and Chad Lowe (Unfaithful) as Byron Montgomery. Executive Producer I. Marline King (Saving Grace, Ravenswood) created a spin-off due to the success of PLL called Ravenswood. Ravenswood also premiered on ABC Family and it follows Caleb Rivers (Tyler Blackburn) return to the town, Ravenswood. Now on it’s fifth season, Pretty Little Liars keeps getting better and better with the return of the mystery character Alison DiLaurentis.
