Spirits of Westeros- Stannis’s Revenge

Welcome to Spirits of Westeros where host, Jessica Kinney, helps you combine the love of Game of Thrones with the love of alcohol.

This weeks drink is named for Stannis Baratheon, the younger brother of Robert who was king of the iron throne.  It is called Stannis’ Revenge because ever since Robert died, he will stop at nothing to claim his right to the crown.

His younger brother Renly attempted to usurp the throne from him, only to be killed by the demon offspring of Stannis and his lover, Melisandre. She has manipulated him to do as she wishes and convinced him that she knows the only way.  She was not with Stannis as he tried to take the throne from Joffrey by attacking Blackwater Bay in King’s Landing.   Tyrion released wildfire and they had to retreat, thus further confirming his belief in Melisandre’s power and influence.  Now Stannis has regained his strength, increased his numbers, received backing from the iron bank, has his wife, daughter and Melisandre in tow and is headed back to King’s Landing for round two.  With all this fighting, women and revenge going around, he might need a drink.  Here is what I would suggest:

Start with some of Gendry’s blood . . . haha..ok really….

Ingredients:

2 oz Fireball

1 oz peach schnapps

½ oz fresh ginger

3-4 dashes of bitters for the bitter battle that Stannis has had to wage to reclaim the throne

Instructions:

Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice.  Pour into a martini glass garnished with the cinnamon sugar rim for the sweet and fiery lord of light.  As you sip down this bitter-sweet concoction, imagine what it’s like being heir to a throne no one will give you, talk about unfair!  Here’s to you Stannis.
